Leeds United were formed in 1919 after former club Leeds City disbanded due to financial irregularities.

On May the 31st 1920 Leeds United were elected into the Football League and consolidated their position in the division until 1924 when suddenly the club strode to the title in 1924 and promotion to the first division beckoned for the first time in their history.
