It was a tale of two halves’ in South Yorkshire in front of the Sky Camera’s on Saturday evening as Leeds ran out 2-1 winners to move up to a season best fifth in the league.
Leeds completely dominated the first half as 77% of the possession told the story of a Leeds side determined to put last week’s defeat to Newcastle firmly behind them.
Chris Wood and Souleymane Doukara gave Leeds a 2-0 advantage at half time and the Whites looked as if they would continue to dominate in the second half after Rotherham’s Peter Odemwingie was sent off in the 29th minute for violent conduct.
But Leeds were guilty of taking their foot off the gas at the New York Stadium to allow the Millers back into the game.
Where Leeds were dominant in the first half, Rotherham took the initiative in the second and piled the pressure on Garry Monk’s promotion chasers.
Leeds held on until the 86th minute when Richard Wood pulled one back for the home side in the 86th minute.
Kenny Jackett’s Rotherham went heavy on the attack as they chased an unlikely equaliser but Leeds survived a last minute goal scramble to make the short trip home with three points earned by the skin of their teeth.
The win in moves Leeds firmly into the play off places in fifth but the defeat leaves Rotherham rock bottom after having picked up just one point in their last 10 matches and facing the very real prospect of relegation.
