Leeds Release New Club Crest but What Do You Think?

With Leeds United’s centenary now less than a year away, the club’s hierarchy took the bold decision to redesign the club badge in honour of the event.

The club undertook six months of research and consulted 10,000 people in the process and THIS is what they came up with.………………..

The new logo that is set to be used from the start of next season has provoked a plethora of responses across social media with most of them negative.

According to the Guardian newspaper, one fan said it looked like a Gaviscon advert with gifs aplenty landing in the Leeds twitter feed mocking the new badge design.

The club statement made it clear that the new design is all about the fans by saying: –

“Leeds United owes everything to the supporters who have stood by the club through thick and thin. We are delighted and proud to reveal a new crest that reflects the passion and loyalty that runs deep through the Club, and celebrates the fans at the heart of our identity.” – official club statement

However, just hours after the grand unveiling, it was revealed that more than three thousand Leeds fans have signed an online petition to get the badge changed.

A similar thing happened in 2013 when Everton fans protested about the removal of the club’s moto and the badge had to be redesigned meaning if the current wave of negativity continues, it is likely something will change.

However, this is no new thing for Leeds, in the clubs 99-year history this will be the 11th change in logo and arguably the worst yet.

No doubt the outpouring will continue long into the night and even rival fans have been quick to get in on the action, but we want to know what you think?

Do you think the new badge is a step in the right direction by putting fans to the fore or do you think it is six months of research wasted?

  1. Amateurish attempt to reflect a proud dynamic club. Who did they consult with and how did they do it? I am member and knew nothing about it!
